Unawatuna is located 128 km from the city of Colombo and if travelling on the Southern Expressway / E01, it will take you approximately 1.40 hours to reach this beach town. Swimming
The beach of Unawatuna is famous for its safe swimming standards. As the waters are much calmer and the waves aren’t too high, this beach is safe for swimming and frolicking on the shore. 
Beach shopping
Being a popular tourist destination, beach shopping thrives in Unawatuna. Head down to the local shops and buy some batik beach sarongs or sun hats to complete your island look! 
Snorkelling / diving
As the waters are calmer, snorkelling is also an option here. Two of the best snorkelling spots in Unawatuna are known as Rock Island and Jungle Beach, where snorkelers will find shoals of colourful fish and live coral.  Diving can also be done here, with plenty of diving sites just off the shores of Unawatuna. 
Deep sea fishing
If you’re heading to Unawatuna between the months of October to April, you will be able to go on a deep sea fishing tour where you can catch tuna, barracuda, sailfish and many others!

Peace Pagoda (Japan Temple)
The Peace Pagoda is a serene temple located close to Jungle Beach in Unawatuna. Perched at the summit of Rumassala hill, the temple was built by the Japanese Nipponzan-My?h?ji order. The temple was built as a symbol of peace to unite people of all races in the pursuit of world peace. Be sure to dress appropriately when visiting the sacred temple.
