The most popular route to Kandy is via the Colombo-Kandy Hwy which covers 115 km and lasts around 3.29 hours. You can also take the Colombo-Kandy Hwy and then the Colombo - Katunayake Expy / E03 which covers 133 km in 3.26 hours. There is also the route through the Colombo-Kandy Hwy, the Katunayake-Veyangoda Road and the Colombo-Katunayake Expy / E03, which takes 3.30 hours, covering 136 km.

Temple of the Tooth
Also called the Sri Dalada Maligawa, the Temple of the Tooth is not only an icon of Kandy but of Sri Lanka as well. The temple garners much reverence from Buddhists as it houses the sacred tooth relic of Lord Gautama Buddha.
Royal Botanical Gardens
Home to more than 4,000 species of plants, the Royal Botanical Gardens in Peradeniya, Kandy attracts 2 million visitors every year. Some of its top attractions include the Cannonball tree, Giant Bamboo of Burma and the Double Coconut Palm which produces the largest seed in the world!
 
Udawatta Kele Sanctuary
Step into a forbidden forest. The Udawatta Kele Sanctuary was once the royal gardens and entrance was forbidden to the public. Today, it is a major natural attraction of the city as it is famous for its extensive avifauna.
Kandy Lake
A sight of such serenity, the Kandy Lake is an artificial lake that is situated in the heart of Kandy, next to the Temple of the Tooth. Also called the Kiri Muhuda or the Sea of Milk, the lake is surrounded by many legends and folklore, one which includes a story of a secret tunnel.
